You’re looking for an editor. You’re on the hunt for someone who knows their stuff and believes your story matters.
In the world of editing, there are two types of editors. Those who stick very closely to the rules of grammar no matter how it might change the author’s voice, and those who don’t. I will help you find and refine your voice, not change it. Punctuation, grammar and sentence structure are very important, but so is an author’s authentic voice.
I help authors refine their voice, while preserving its authenticity.
I offer a wide variety of editing services to service a wide variety of writers. My clients write fiction, non-fiction, business and academic pieces. Some come to me after their piece is finished and some prefer to edit as they go.
Are you a writer who needs?
- Substantive Editing. Are your characters and plot properly developed? Are your arguments clear and logical? Is the information you’ve written conveyed in a compelling manner? These are questions I’ll ask myself as I work through and edit your piece.
- Copy Editing. Grammar, spelling, punctuation and mechanics of style can make or break a great piece. These are the areas I’ll focus on as I work through your piece.
- Proofreading. Manuscript, layout and page proofs have been completed. Now it’s time for a check of style inconsistencies and missed copy errors. I will go over your proof with a fine toothed comb while I work on it.
- Manuscript Evaluation. I will provide you with a detailed written critique after a careful and thorough review and assessment. This evaluation includes: punctuation, grammar, spelling, syntax, flow, style, structure, plot, dialogue, and characterization.

My edits will bring clarity to your piece.
My services include two rounds of editing: one comprehensive round of editing, and a second review after author makes changes, and prior to publishing. I will use my knowledge and background to help you improve your manuscript.
Here are a few things my clients have said about working with me.
“Thanks Elizabeth Thompson for the initial edit. It has really helped me expand and improve the story. If anyone needs an editor, she is it!” – John Mackey, writer.
“Your words of encouragement mean the world to me. Now I can carry on with the energy I needed so badly. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” – Alistair Roslin, writer.
“Thank you! Your words give me the shot of confidence I needed.” – Stephen Taylor, writer.
